Through 40 consolidated and unconsolidated subsidiaries and 7 affiliated companies, we are active in a wide range of businesses, primarily in such service industries as transportation, materials inspection, leasing, plant and equipment installation, trading, real estate, and travel. In fiscal 1998, consolidated sales in this sector increased 18.4%, to 116.4 billion yen, because of efforts to expand business and cultivate new markets. However, operating income increased only 1.4%, to 6.6 billion yen, owing to a decrease in the profit ratio.
