am very happy to present our Environmental Sustainability
Report 2004.
The Kobe Steel Group sets forth a vision of contributing
to society through our material business (steel, welding,
aluminum, and copper); the wholesale electricity supply
business (IPP); and the machinery business (industrial
machinery, construction machinery, environmental solutions,
and plant engineering). Through our businesses, we are
striving to supply products, services, and technology
that win the approval of people around the world.
To achieve this ambitious goal requires not just to provide
better products and services to you but also to carry
out “environmental management,” in which evaluation
from the viewpoint of the environment is incorporated
in all corporate activities. To this end, I constantly
attach great importance to eco-friendliness when making
decisions.
In the 2003-2005 Consolidated Medium-Term Business Plan
unveiled last year, the “Promotion of Group Environmental
Management” was designated as one of the priority
measures. I myself am taking initiative to exercise and
promote group-wide approaches. At the same time, each
of the group companies intends to further endeavor to
improve its awareness of the environment. .
I look forward to your continued understanding and support
of the environmental activities of the Kobe Steel Group.
Ecoway
Kobe Steel Group has
established a symbol mark with an aim to cultivate an
“environmental” mind in employees and to allow
the environment image to take root in its employees.
The freshly green leafdrawn freehand expresses a natural
and gentle image, and by combining an arrow mark with
the word “ECO WAY.” This mark expresses the
“Kobe Steel Group’s corporate stance to steadily
advance, step by step, on the path to becoming an environmentally
advanced company.
Editorial Policy
This report was created
referring to the "Environmental Reporting Guidelines
(Fiscal Year 2003 Version)" published by the Ministry
of the Environment in March 2004. Technical terms are
explained for easy understanding and the sources of related
information are included so that readers can obtain more
detailed information.
Applicable Period/Applicable Organizations
The Environmental Sustainability
Report 2004 presents Kobe Steel's activities and achievements
in environmental protection and creation in fiscal 2003
(April 1, 2003 to March 31, 2004). Some data from previous
years are also included. The report also sets forth the
company's basic policy on environmental protection as
well as its future activities.
