Technology Producing Artificial Diamonds

In the middle of 20th century, the industries involved in high temperature and high pressure technologies were sharing one goal, which was to artificially produce diamonds having the same properties as natural ones.

The dream of producing diamonds, the hardest mineral on the earth, that’s how the high pressure technologies have grown so dramatically.

Thanks to the technology, diamonds are now able to be produced in only a couple of months by adding pressure and heat to carbon while the earth creates them over thousands of years.

Expanding Application of High Temperature and High Pressure
High temperature and high pressure technologies might be most commonly used in the field of processing.
One of the technologies is Cold Isostatic Pressing (CIP), which molds powder like ceramics filled into a rubber mold by applying uniform pressure from all directions.

On the other hand, Hot Isostatic Pressing (HIP) is a pressure sintering technology using the synergistic effects between pressure and temperature.
Recently, CIP applications have been attracting attention in food industry. For example, CIP can prevent loss of vitamin or flavor caused by heating, provide long storage of orange juice by pressure sterilization, or remove bitter taste of grapefruit juice. As the first pressurized food, natural-flavored jam was commercialized.
