Electronics Research Laboratory
Electronics Research Laboratory (ERL) is developing new products and new technologies for future business in prospective areas, including electronics and information technology, nano-technology, bio-technology, and environmental technology. These activities are based on a number of our core technologies such as thin films and deposition, microfabrication, optical measurements, and superconductors. These technologies are also applied to production processes, strengthening the technological competitiveness of the divisions. ERL also supports the divisions both technologically and strategically.
Thin Films
Thin film structures, properties, material design and control
MEMS and diamonds devices
Plasma applications
Applied Electronics
Optics and image processing
Ion beam applications
Superconductor
Superconducting wires
Superconducting magnets
LCD Panel, HDD Assembly, and Sputtering Targets
Advanced thin film materials and sputtering targets are developed for PVD processing. In particular, our Al-Nd alloys are one of the best materials for the interconnects for LCD panels.

     LCD HDD

Diamond Films and Devices
Diamond film technologies are developed for various applications, including FETs, UV photodetectors, optical windows, thermal management, and waste-water treatment.

     Cool Diamond

Superconducting Magnet
Our Nb3Sn superconducting wires with excellent performance at very high field, combined with our high performance cryogenic technology, are used to build the NMR magnets with the world highest magnetic field of 930 MHz (21.9 T).
NIMS930
Optics and Image Processing Technology
Si-wafer inspection systems and bio-technology related systems as well as various high precision measurement systems are developed using laser optics and image processing technologies.
