MRL's contribution is to enhance the competitive edge of KSL business sectors. In the material business sector our contributions are found in new product development and optimization of manufacturing process based on application of our advanced metal microstructure control technology. In the machinery sectors our contributions are found in creation of the distinctive products by our material technology. In addition we are developing new materials for new businesses.
 
Mechanical Engineering Research Laboratory

MERL is actively involved in the development of novel technologies and new products as well as in the improvement of product performance, design & manufacturing processes based on its advanced technologies in the field of structural analysis, metal working, vibration & sound analysis, fluid & heat transfer and combustion.
 
Production System Research Laboratory

PRL is contributing to the enhancement of competitiveness in KSL's existing business domain utilizing its advanced electronics and system control technologies. PRL is also concentrating its efforts in developing new technologies and products in order to penetrate growing markets such as the information & communication sectors.
 
Electronics Research Laboratory

ERL is contributing to enhance competitiveness in KSL's existing business domain utilizing its advanced electronics and system control technologies, and also concentrating its efforts in developing new technologies and products in order to penetrate into the growing market such as the semiconductor and information & communication sectors.
 
Coal & Energy Technology Department

Kobe Steel has promoted to develop the utilization technologies of unused hydrocarbon resources (low rank coal, ultra heavy oil) that exist in Indonesia, Australia and Brazil for the diversification and stabilization of energy resources in Japan.
