Kobe Steel's Welding Business makes organizational changes

Kobe Steel, Ltd.'s Welding Business will make the following organizational changes effective April 1.

1. Background and Purpose

The Welding Business is working to achieve continued growth, including in overseas markets, through welding solutions and is mounting efforts to improve profits.

Difficult conditions are expected to continue in the business environment surrounding the Welding Business. In addition to a slowdown in the world economy, the high yen has become entrenched and the outlook on the raw materials market and other factors is increasingly unclear.

Under these conditions, the technical division in the Welding Business must further strengthen efforts to continue providing the world's most reliable welding technologies. The marketing division must further enhance its capabilities to increase sales volume. It must also build a sales system that is responsive to market changes.

In view of this situation, the Welding Business will revise the organization of its Fujisawa Works, the center for welding research and development. In addition, it will reorganize its domestic sales offices to promote more effective marketing.

2. Organizational Changes

(1) Technical Development
The Technical Center will be newly created. The current Development Planning Section, Intellectual Property Section, and Quality Assurance Section will be directly under the Technical Center.

The Welding Process Department will be newly created at the Technical Center. The current Technical Development Department and Welding Process Section will be transferred to the new department.

The Welding System Department will be newly created and the functions of the current Welding System Section will be transferred to the new department.

(2) Production
Fujisawa Works, which is a production function included in the Fujisawa business location, will be renamed Fujisawa Plant as part of the Production Center.

(3) Marketing Department

  • The East Japan Marketing Section, Middle Japan Marketing Section, and West Japan Marketing Section will be newly created. Details follow below.

A. The East Japan Marketing Section will be based in Tokyo and the functions of the current Tokyo Marketing Section will be transferred to the new section.

The Hokkaido Marketing Office and the Tohoku Marketing Office will be newly established. The functions of the current Hokkaido Marketing Section and Tohoku Marketing Section will be transferred to the new respective sections.

B. The Middle Japan Marketing Section will be based in Nagoya. The functions of the current Nagoya Marketing Section will be transferred to the new section.

C. The West Japan Marketing Section will be based in Osaka. The functions of the current Osaka Marketing Section will be transferred to the new section.

The Chugoku Marketing Office, Shikoku Marketing Office and Kyushu Marketing Office will be newly created. The functions of the current Chushikoku Marketing Section and the Kyushu Marketing Section will be transferred to the respective new sections.

  • The Customer Support Group will be newly created in the Marketing Planning Section in the Marketing Department. The functions of the current Customer Support Center will be transferred to the new Customer Support Group.
