February 25, 2003 - Daian Plant receives ISO 14001

The Daian Plant of Kobe Steel's Aluminum and Copper Company has received the ISO 14001 Standard for environmental management systems. Lloyd's Register Quality Assurance Limited accredited the plant in December 2002.

The Daian Plant is a major facility of the Aluminum and Copper Company. It makes aluminum cast and forged products, primarily for the automotive and aircraft industries, as well as machined parts for semiconductor and LCD manufacturing equipment. Daian is noted for its small-lot production of a wide variety of products. Located in Mie Prefecture in central Japan, the plant employs about 400 people, including those from affiliate companies.

With this certification, all four of the manufacturing facilities in the aluminum and copper operations have been accredited. In addition, most of Kobe Steel's works and plants in its other business segments have already been certified.
