In order to tell our stakeholders what Kobe Steel Group is doing for its environmental management, Kobe Steel positively discloses environmental information and data through various means including Internet, advertisement (newspapers, magazines, and others), exhibitions, and lecture meetings. Environmental Report Kobe Steel has published an annual environmental report since 1999, and this year's report is the sixth issue. Every year, we strive to improve the contents taking into account feedbacks from readers through a variety of media. In order to communicate our successes in environmental protection and creation, we will continue our efforts to cover as wide a range of topics as possible and improve the accuracy of the report. In Shinko Kobe Power, Inc., the emission concentration of SOx and NOx from the power plant and the difference of intake water and discharge water temperatures of condenser cooling water are released to the public on the monitor screen at adjacent "Nadahama Garden Baden" and "Nadahama Science Square." At the same time, the data is transmitted to Kobe city government by telemeter so that Kobe city government can constantly monitor these values. Monitor screen of environmental data Guidebook on Environment-Friendly Products and Technologies In 2000, we published a guidebook in Japanese on our environmental operations aimed at a sustainable society. The guidebook called "Environmental Business of Kobe Steel Group: Product and Technology Guide" explains in detail our environment-friendly efforts and technologies. * The Product and Technology Guide can be requested through Internet. Environmental Business of the Kobe Steel Group: Product and Technology Guide Encouragement of Environmental Communication In works and plants, environmental communication is encouraged in the light of opinions received through periodical communications with people in communities as well as questionnaires attached to the Environmental Report and opinions received by e-mail. For example, to the question "What are the articles you are interested in the Environmental Report issued last year?," the following three article were mentioned: [1] "Development of products and technologies that contribute to the environment" [2] "Building a Recycling-based Society" [3] "Measures against Global Warming." In addition to these, we received many opinions, and in the present Report, we made efforts to reflect your opinions as much as possible.
