Environmental Accounting

With a quantitative understanding of the costs and effects of environmental protection activities, the Kobe Steel Group seeks to achieve more effective environmental management.


Environment-Related Investment

To reduce its impact on the environment, investment in the building and maintenance of pollution-prevention facilities is ongoing, and wide-ranging measures for the environment have been introduced.

Capital investment for fiscal 2009 totaled approximately 3.2 billion yen and expenditure reached about 30.9 billion yen. Some 37% of this expenditure went to air pollution prevention, 15% went to water pollution prevention, and 31% went to resource recycling.

Also, about 2.9 billion yen, or 9% of total expenditure, was spent on research and development.
