Disclosure of Environmental Information

Publishing information and data on environmental management via a range of channels,
Incorporating feedback into day-to-day environmental activities

We actively publish environmental information and data via channels such as our Sustainability Report, so as to keep all of our stakeholders accurately informed about the Kobe Steel Group's environmental management activities. We also make every effort to improve environmental communication at our plants and works through initiatives such as regular meetings with local residents.

Sustainability Report

Every year since the first environmental report was issued in 1999, a report has been published that compiles the Group's environmental projects and initiatives. Since 2006, social issues have been included, and this expanded version was renamed the Sustainability Report. We will continue to provide a wide range of information on the results of the Kobe Steel Group's environmental management activities in the future.

Participating in Exhibitions

We showcase the Kobe Steel Group's environmentally friendly products, technologies and services at a range of environmental exhibitions. In fiscal 2010, we participated in Messe Nagoya 2010 and also exhibited at bC India, a bauma-CONEXPO show. This construction machinery trade fair brought together over 500 companies in India.

Communication with the Local Community

In an effort to provide people with a better understanding of our environmental conservation activities, we organized events such as onsite presentations for members of the local community at our Kakogawa Works and Kobe Works. A presentation at the Kakogawa Works on May 30, 2010 was attended by 17 people, who were provided with an overview of progress with onsite measures. Participants were given the chance to see our facilities for themselves. We have also set up a toll-free telephone service at the Kakogawa Works and Kobe Works to handle environment-related inquiries. We received a total of 68 inquiries in fiscal 2008, 60 in fiscal 2009 and 45 in fiscal 2010. We will continue to listen carefully to individual opinions in the future.
