Risk Management Activities at Overseas Locations
We rigorously enforce environmental management at Kobe Steel Group locations the world over, in accordance with the Group's Basic Environmental Management Policy.
Main Overseas Group Companies Subject to Risk Management Activities
As well as our domestic sites and group companies, we are looking to establish environmental management systems in line with those in Japan at all overseas Kobe Steel Group companies in the future. To achieve this, we have been conducting onsite environmental inspections at our manufacturing bases all over the world since fiscal 2009, spearheaded by Kobe Steel Head Office.
We will continue to raise the standard of environmental management activities at overseas locations in the future, as we keep on working to improve environmental management systems on a groupwide basis.
Onsite Environmental Surveys at Group Companies in Singapore and Malaysia

In fiscal 2011, we conducted onsite surveys at three production facilities operated by group companies in Singapore and Malaysia, to ascertain environmental management standards and identify any issues. The group companies then carried out any necessary remedial action based on our findings.
We will continue to conduct onsite inspections at overseas locations in fiscal 2012.

Establishing Environmental Management Systems at Overseas Locations
Technology Sdn. Bhd.
In December 2011, we obtained ISO 14001 international certification for our environmental management system at Kobe Precision Technology Sdn. Bhd. (KPTEC). Located in the Malaysian state of Penang, KPTEC was established by Kobe Steel as a wholly owned subsidiary in 1992 to manufacture and sell aluminum hard disk substrates. KPTEC purchases aluminum coils from our Moka Plant. Blanks are punched and polished into substrates which are then shipped to users
