Reader Responses

Here at the Kobe Steel Group, we carry out environmental and social contribution activities based on a dialogue with stakeholders. As part of that dialogue, we conduct a reader survey every year when we publish our Sustainability Report. We received the following comments and opinions from a wide range of readers in response to our fiscal 2012 report.

We will continue to make use of readers' individual opinions in our reports in the future, in an effort to create a more interactive Sustainability Report.

Content Readers Would Like to See Included in the Next Report

  • I would like a slightly more technically in-depth description of products. Through the Kobe Steel Group, I want to learn more about the level of Japan's industrial technology prowess and the degree of its reliability.
  • I would like more details about steam-powered compressors. I feel that if they can also generate power, it could be possible to create the ultimate steam locomotive and car.
  • My question is about risk management for major earthquakes. What do you think about business continuity plans (BCP) during a disaster, separate from initiatives for disaster prevention?
  • I thought that you could put more effort into PR about your open corporate culture based on the barrier-free concept. Also, I would like to see more people featured in terms of the creation of pleasant work environments for employees.
  • I would like to see something about your stance on making international social contributions.
  • What kind of benefits are KOBELCO's products creating in industrial and life settings? I want to know more about the points of connections between KOBELCO and our work and life.

Other Comments and Feedback

  • Clearly stating the editorial policy at the beginning made it easy to read through the report.
  • Please spread binary generators to hot spring resorts throughout Japan.
  • I hope that many Kobelco Steelers players will make the team for the Rugby World Cup to be hosted in Japan. Give us some good results in the top league!
  • The report made it clear to me that contributions to the environment and local communities have become inseparable from corporate activities. I can relate to the ongoing cleanups at each site.
  • I didn't know that power-supply vehicles were one of your products. Now I know how much you are contributing to society, for restoring infrastructure following natural disasters.
  • I felt that this was a good CSR report with sincere descriptions. However, I also felt that it was difficult to read due to the sheer amount of information. I thought that was unfortunate.
  • I think that KOBELCO is carrying out activities appropriate for one of Japan's leading companies. I would like to see you enhance your support for university education and research in Japan.
