In accordance with our Basic Environmental Management Policy, the Kobe Steel Group aims for thorough environmental management at Group locations throughout the world.
As with business locations and Group companies in Japan, the Kobe Steel Group will implement environmental management systems for overseas Group companies in line with Japanese standards. To this end, since fiscal 2009 Kobe Steel has been carrying out environmental inspections at its manufacturing locations worldwide in order to confirm environmental management conditions on-site.
In fiscal 2015, inspections were carried out at 10 Group manufacturing companies in China. The purpose of the inspections was to grasp the actual conditions of the environmental management conditions and identify related problems. Improvements were implemented based on the results. We will continue to carry out environmental inspections at overseas locations in fiscal 2016.
In order to promote environmental management for Group companies worldwide, we also carry out a variety of support activities for overseas locations.
In China, where our production sites have increased in recent years, Kobelco (China) Holding Co., Ltd. (KCHD), which is our headquarters in China, appointed an environmental manager in April 2015, in order to provide detailed support in greater cooperation with Group companies. The KCHD environmental manager disseminates information on environment-related laws and provides guidance at seminars in China and through other means, in order to support environmental management at Chinese Group companies.
In the United States, which is home to many Group production sites, the environmental manager at Kobe Steel USA Inc. (KSU), which is our headquarters in the United States, continues to share information with environmental managers at production sites through EHS (Environment, Health & Safety) Meetings.
In other areas, we are practicing communication in various ways such as upgrading the level of our systems for sharing environmental information and holding environmental seminars. Going forward, we will continue these kinds of initiatives in an effort to reduce our environmental risk.

Wuxi Compressor Co., Ltd. (WCC) manufactures and sells compressors in Jiangsu Province, China. In 2015, WCC was chosen as a "Green Company," the highest rank in a graded assessment of corporate environmental reporting and disclosure (grading of a company's environmental management by the China's Ministry of Environmental Protection) conducted by the environmental protection authorities for Wuxi New District, where WCC is located.
Education on Waste and Recycling (Ohio, USA)
Kobelco Stewart Bolling, Inc. (KSBI), which was established for the purpose of designing, manufacturing, selling, and conducting on-site installation of tire and rubber machinery, provides periodic environmental education to all its employees. In fiscal 2015, it conducted education on the proper disposal of materials such as waste paint and waste oil, which are generated in KSBI's production processes, based on the theme of proper waste handling.
