Algerian Qatari Steel Begins MIDREX DRI Plant in Algeria

Algerian Qatari Steel (AQS) began its MIDREX^® Direct Reduction Plant (2.5 million tons per year (t/y)) and first production of on-grade Direct Reduced Iron (DRI) in the industrial zone of Bellara, Algeria in February. The first successful charge of hot DRI to the AQS Electric Arc Furnace #1 was on March 24. The DRI plant was supplied by Midrex Technologies, Inc., a Kobe Steel’s wholly owned subsidiary in the U.S., and its consortium partner, Paul Wurth S.A.
