Kobe Steel selects new representative directors

March 4, 2009

TOKYO, March 4, 2009 - Kobe Steel, Ltd. announces that at its board of directors' meeting today it selected candidates for new representative directors.  

The changes in representative directors, effective from April 1, 2009, will be finalized after resolution at the Ordinary General Meeting of Stockholders scheduled to be held in late June 2009 and the board of directors' meeting that follows.

New Representative Directors

The new representative directors, their titles, and areas of responsibility from April 1 are:

Takashi Matsutani

Current title:	Senior Managing Director
New title:	Senior Managing Director and Representative Director
Areas of responsibility:	Responsible for the General Administration Department, Legal Department and company-wide corporate compliance.  In charge of the Secretariat & Publicity Department, Coal and Energy Project Department, CWD Projects Department, and Iron Unit Division.

Kazuo Shigekawa

Current title:	Senior Managing Director
New title:	Senior Managing Director and Representative Director
Area of responsibility:	President of the Machinery and Engineering Company

Continuing Representative Directors

The following representative directors will continue:

Hiroshi Satoh

Current title:	Executive Vice President and Representative Director
New title:	President, CEO and Representative Director(announced February 10, 2009)

Keiji Koyama

Title:	Executive Vice President and Representative Director
Areas of responsibility:	Responsible for the Auditing Department, Human Resources Department, Corporate Planning Department, IT Planning Department, Finance Department, Accounting Department, Marketing Planning Department, domestic branch and sales offices (including Takasago Works), and overseas offices (excluding those under the Iron & Steel Sector).

Tomoyuki Kaya

Retiring Representative Directors
