Kobe Steel, Ltd. has been named as one of the 2016 Top 100 Global Innovators by Clarivate Analytics, formerly the Intellectual Property & Science business of Thomson Reuters. Clarivate Analytics presented Kobe Steel today with a trophy for the award. Kobe Steel has received the award for the third consecutive year.
The report honors the most innovative corporations and institutions in the world based on the robust analysis of their intellectual property and patent trends. The organizations are recognized for their innovation generated by the creative intellectual property derived from their research activities. The Top 100 Global Innovators report began in 2011. The criteria for the award are as follows:
- Patent volume:
- Organizations with at least100 patented unique inventions from the most recent five years
- Patent success rate:
- Ratio of inventions that have been granted patents
- Global reach:
- Number of inventions protected in four major world markets (Europe, the United States, China and Japan)
- Invention influence:
- How often patents are cited by other organizations
Clarivate Analytics said that "of the four criteria, Kobe Steel received high scores on patent success rate and global reach, leading to Kobe Steel's selection" to the list.
