Shinko Wire Stainless Company, Ltd. reacquires JIS certification

Kobe Steel, Ltd. announces that Shinko Wire Stainless Company, Ltd. (head office: Izumisano, Osaka Prefecture; president: Osamu Koike) has reacquired its JIS certification today following a recent certification audit by the JIS certification body JIC Quality Assurance Ltd. (JICQA).

Shinko Wire Stainless Company, Ltd. is a 100% owned subsidiary of Shinko Wire Company, Ltd. (head office: Amagasaki, Hyogo Prefecture; president: Koji Fujii; 30.7% owned affiliate company of Kobe Steel, Ltd.; and listed on the second section of the Tokyo Stock Exchange).

As announced on June 9, 2016, Shinko Wire Stainless Company, Ltd. was found to be in noncompliance with JIS (Japanese Industrial Standards) regulations. On June 10, 2016, Shinko Wire Stainless Company, Ltd. had its JIS certification for stainless steel wires for springs (JIS G 4314) revoked.

Subsequently, Shinko Wire Company, Ltd. and its group company undertook the automatic recording of test inspection data, developed work standards, and implemented measures to prevent recurrence including independent functions for quality assurance. As a result, the rebuilding of the quality management system was approved and led to the reacquisition of JIS certification at Shinko Wire Stainless Company, Ltd.

Status of JIS certifications in the Kobe Steel Group

Due to improper conduct by Kobe Steel and its group companies (the Kobe Steel Group), JIS certification bodies have sequentially undertaken an examination of all Kobe Steel Group locations that have received JIS certification.

The Kobe Steel Group has 20 locations that have received JIS certification. Today, JICQA has decided to maintain JIS certification at five locations: Kobe Steel’s Kakogawa Works and Kobe Works; Shinko Wire Company, Ltd.’s Onoe Works; Tesac Wire Rope Co., Ltd.’s Nishikihama Works; and Shinko Wire Stainless Company, Ltd. (JIS G4309: stainless steel wires and JIS G 4315: stainless steel wires for cold heading and cold forging.
