Kobe Steel’s Subsidiary Becomes Successful Bidder in the Long-Term Decarbonization Power Resource Auction

Kobelco Power Kobe, Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Kobe Steel, submitted a bid to and successfully won the Long-Term Decarbonization Power Resource Auction for fiscal 2025, conducted by the Organization for Cross-regional Coordination of Transmission Operators (OCCTO)*.

This auction is designed to promote investment in power sources aimed at achieving carbon neutrality by 2050. In principle, successful bidders will be eligible to recover their fixed costs, as well as a portion of their fuel expenses, over a period of 20 years. In line with its roadmap to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050, Kobe Steel will continue its efforts to implement 20% ammonia co-firing.

  • * The OCCTO was established to promote wide-area operations of electricity businesses by monitoring the supply and demand of electricity managed by electric utilities and facilitating the securing of supply capacity necessary for a stable supply of electricity. The OCCTO is the operating body of this auction.
