Basic Policy (Declaration of Health and Productivity Management)

The Kobelco Group believes that safety and health are fundamental to its business operations and take priority over all business activities. In accordance with this principle, we are working to create a workplace in which people can work lively with safety and health ensured.

Objectives and Management Structure for the Promotion of Health and Productivity Management

Based on the basic policy, we are promoting health and productivity management as an issue of paramount importance to corporate activities of our Company, which embraces a corporate culture that places the highest priority on safety and health, regardless of the social and business environment, recognizing that it contributes to corporate growth and sustainability.

Five key elements for promoting health management

Our Company has set mental health, physical health, disease prevention, sleep, D&I, and WLB (work-life balance) as key elelments for promoting health management.

Management Structure

We have set up the following management structure to implement PDCA cycle for promoting health management. We are collaborating with relevant bodies both inside and outside the company to create a safe and healthy workplace.

In order to realize a safe and healthy workplace, we are working to address both mental health and physical health issues by implementing and promoting the following measures focused on prevention and early detection/treatment.

Mental Health

      Particularly for workplaces that come under "burnout," industrial physicians, departments responsible for safety and health, and departments responsible for human resources and labor relations strive to understand the situation and engage in improvements.

Secondary prevention
(Early detection, early treatment)
  • Individual follow-up based on the results of stress checks
    • Interviews of employees with high stress levels by an industrial physician
    • Sleep-related questions added to the stress check questionnaire, and industrial physicians check/follow up on applicable individuals
  • Regular opening of consultation desks staffed by industrial counselors
  • Support provided by industrial health staff assigned to business sites (industrial physicians, nurses, and industrial counselors)
Tertiary prevention
(Return to work, prevention of recurrence)
  • Support for employees returning to the workplace by industrial health staff assigned to business sites and departments in charge of human resources and labor relations
  • Support by consulting psychiatrists

Disease Prevention

  • Health checkups and aftercare
    • Health checkups and health guidance pursuant to the Industrial Safety and Health Act
    • Health checkups and health guidance for employees requiring follow-up observation
    • Checkups at health screening clinics for employees reaching the age of 50 or 60 as well as their spouses
    • Expanded cancer screening (e.g., gastric cancer checkups: adoption of blood tests + endoscopy, implementation of Helicobacter pylori testing)
    • Support for employees returning to the workplace by industrial health staff assigned to business sites and departments in charge of human resources and labor relations
  • Support for smoking cessation
    • Creating an environment to promote smoking cessation by introducing smoking cessation during working hours and non-smoking hours at some business locations
    • Dissemination of educational materials on smoking cessation created in cooperation with the Kobe Steel health insurance association (through posting on the corporate intranet, etc.)
    • Support for smoking cessation by industrial health staff utilizing nicotine patch treatment (partially covered by the Company's health insurance program)
  • Vaccinations
    • Influenza vaccinations (fully covered by the Company for employees and their health insurance dependents)
    • Vaccinations for employees transferred overseas

Physical Health

  • Initiatives for increasing health literacy
    • Promoting regular exercise using the Pep Up health promotion support app
    • Implementing regular exercise promotion and sleep improvement campaigns focused on walking good sleep
    • As part of our efforts to address lack of exercise, videos of easy stretching and back pain prevention exercises are posted on the corporate intranet.
    • At some business locations, physical fitness age is assessed by measuring physical fitness (body composition, forward bends, standing on one leg with eyes closed, reflex measurements, etc.).

Sleep

  • Creation and deployment of sleep educational videos supervised by consulting psychiatrist (tips for healthy sleep, sleep apnea, and appropriate sleep management for shift workers)
  • Sleep-related questions added to the stress check questionnaire, and industrial physicians check/follow up on applicable individuals

As a member of the Health Management Working Group of Kobe City's "Health Creative City KOBE," our Company is working to address societal health management issues by collaborating with the local community in activities in the three areas listed below in accordance with the committee's operating policy.

2024 Health and Produtivity Management Organization (White 500)

By implementing various measures to maintain and promote both physical and mental health, we are working to create a more comfortable working environment as well as a safe and healthy workplace. We have been certified as a "2024 Health and Produtivity Management Organization (White 500)" for the fifth time, as in the previous year, in recognition of our efforts.
