Kobe Steel’s low-CO₂ aluminum product Kobenable™ Aluminum offers a third-party guaranteed higher recycled material use ratio
Dec. 22, 2025
Kobe Steel, Ltd.
Kobe Steel, Ltd. has completed verification by a third-party certification body*1 (DNV*2) to guarantee the recycled material use ratio on aluminum flat rolled products manufactured at Moka Works. This verification enables the Company to allocate the usage of recycled materials to specific aluminum sheet products based on the mass balance method*3 and to offer products with a higher recycled material use ratio. Improved recycling rates will be available in Kobenable™ Aluminum*4, a low-CO2 aluminum product that achieves CO2 reduction through the use of low-CO2 aluminum raw materials based on the mass balance method. The launch of the Kobenable™ Aluminum brand was announced in the release dated November 20, 2024.
Kobenable™ Aluminum sheet products have the following features:
- 1Capable of reducing Scope 3 emissions to zero, based on the mass balance method
- 2Available for all types of the Company’s aluminum flat rolled products
- 3Manufactured using the same process as conventional products, maintaining the same level of high quality
- 4Accompanied with a low-CO2 aluminum product certificate, which guarantees CO2 emissions per kilogram of product.
- 5Higher recycled material use ratio applicable using the mass balance method, with guaranteed CO2 emissions per kilogram of product and a guaranteed recycled material use ratio.
Note: Item (5) is a newly introduced feature announced today, while items (1) to (4) were announced in November 2024.
Reduction of CO2 emissions through Kobenable™ Aluminum

This certification enables a reduction of Scope 3 emissions through the increased use of recycled materials in aluminum flat rolled products manufactured at Moka Works. Our next step is to reduce Scopes 1 and 2 emissions by enhancing energy savings, improving productivity, and increasing the use of non-fossil energy sources. These efforts will help us maximize CO2 reduction effects and deliver measurable value to customers, thereby contributing to the realization of a decarbonized society.
