Highlights of Activities Aimed at Working in Harmony with Society
As a member of both regional and international society, we want to develop together with the communities in which we operate. Our goal is to be a good corporate citizen. That is why we are pursuing a wide variety of activities that make a positive social contribution. A few of these activities are introduced here to provide a glimpse of our role as a corporate group that sincerely works to make a difference.

Assistance for the Victims of the Sichuan Earthquake in China
The Kobe Steel Group has been providing aid to victims of the Sichuan Earthquake, which struck on May 12, 2008. We have donated construction machinery, given monetary aid to help in reconstruction, and supported the rebuilding of an elementary school.
Special Support for Two High School Rugby Tournaments


To encourage the development of rugby among high school students, we provided special support for two tournaments in 2008: the 88th National High School Rugby Tournament, and Kobelco Cup 2008. Current members of Kobe Steel's own rugby team, the Kobelco Steelers, participated as coaches in the latter.

Kobelco Compact Screw-Type Steam Energy Generator Wins Top Prize for Energy Efficiency
Our newly developed screw-type SteamStar Micro Steam Energy Generator has won several awards, including the Grand Prix of the Nikkei BP Technology Awards in fiscal 2008. It has been recognized for its effectiveness in saving energy and reducing CO2 emissions in production facilities.
Inviting Shareholders to Tour Production Facilities


We want our shareholders to gain a deeper understanding of Kobe Steel. To that end, we held tours at our Kakogawa Works, which produces steel, and our Moka Works, which produces aluminum and copper. Shareholders were able to see for themselves how committed the Kobe Steel Group is to "monozukuri" - skilled manufacturing.
Kobelco 1/17 Walk
On January 17, 2009, we sponsored our third Kobelco 1/17 Walk, which is premised on a disaster scenario such as a major earthquake. Employees and their families participated, walking as far as 13km, noting places that seem dangerous, and confirming evacuation sites.
