Cooperation with Local Communities

Actively preserving the environment in partnership with local communities


The Kobe Steel Group takes a cooperative approach on environmental issues with the local community.

We provide continual support for activities aimed at enhancing the areas around our plants and works and protecting the environment.

Contributing to Local Communities

Our employees carry out clean-up activities and other environmental volunteer activities in and around our plants and works. The following section outlines some of those activities. We remain committed to community-oriented activities, now and in the future.

Kobe Works Giving lectures at school for elementary school children in Kobe, based on the theme "Steel and the Environment"
Shinko Metal Products Co., Ltd. Designating the first working day of each month as "Environment Day," and getting all members of office staff to take part in 30-minute clean-up activities along national highways in the vicinity of company premises

Fujisawa Works Receives Award from Kanagawa Prefectural Government

In recognition of our all-round environmental conservation activities over a sustained period at Fujisawa Works, including roadside clean-up activities in the vicinity of the facility and actively participating in initiatives such as greenery preservation and promotion activities organized by the Fujisawa Council for Greenery Promotion in Industrial Environments, we received an award for excellence in the air, water and soil category at the fiscal 2010 Kanagawa Environmental Awards.

Supporting Environmental Activities

Kobe Steel set up the Kobelco Natural Environment Conservation Charitable Trust Fund and the Kobelco Environment Creation Fund in 2001 to support people and groups involved in environmental conservation activities. These funds are directed beyond the Kobe Steel Group of companies and provide support for a wide range of conservation efforts at community level.

Voluntary Service Award from the City of Kobe

Kobe Steel has been given a voluntary service award in recognition of our commitment to supporting a wide range of environmental initiatives in Kobe over the last ten years via the Kobelco Environment Creation Fund.

A certificate was presented to President Hiroshi Sato by Kobe Mayor Tatsuo Yada at an award ceremony on May 18, 2011.

We will continue to provide support for local communities in a variety of ways in the future.
