Risk Management Activities at Overseas Locations

Continually improving environmental management systems at premises all over the world |
We rigorously enforce environmental management at Kobe Steel Group premises the world over, in accordance with the Group's Basic Environmental Management Policy.
Onsite Environmental Inspections at Group Companies in Thailand
As well as our domestic plants, works and Group companies, we are looking to establish environmental management systems in line with those in Japan at all overseas Kobe Steel Group companies in the future. As part of our efforts to achieve this goal, we are conducting onsite environmental inspections at overseas Group companies.
In fiscal 2010, we conducted onsite surveys at six Group company production sites in Thailand, and identified areas in need of improvement in terms of environmental management. We have since carried out all necessary remedial action based on the results at each site. We intend to continue conducting onsite inspections at overseas premises in fiscal 2011.

Environmental Education
We organize environmental education at overseas Group companies as well as in Japan, in an effort to improve levels of environmental awareness and keep employees informed about matters such as environmental laws and regulations and technology.

Reducing Environmental Risks
We take active measures at overseas Group companies in an effort to reduce environmental risks. At Kobe & Shinsho Tube Specialities in Malaysia, we have hermetically sealed cleaning machines in order to reduce odors. At Kobe Welding of Korea in South Korea meanwhile, we have fitted covers and rubber buffers to casting and wire drawing machinery in order to minimize noise and vibration.

In January 2011, we obtained ISO 14001 international certification for our environmental management system at Kobe CH Wire (Thailand) Co., Ltd., which manufactures cold heading wire for use in automotive nuts and bolts in Thailand. |
