Highlights on Society - Highlights of Fiscal 2012

Monozukuri promotion leaders from each of our manufacturing facilities gather to share information on best practices and plan cross-site projects to resolve issues.

We hold tours to give shareholders a deeper understanding of the Group's diverse businesses. In fiscal 2012, tours were held at the Moka Plant, Kobe Works, and Kobe Corporate Research Laboratories.

In June 2012, the Kobe Steel Rugby Club visited Great East Japan Earthquake-hit Kamaishi, Iwate Prefecture. It helped out in a cleanup of the coast and conducted a rugby workshop together with the local rugby team. The Club will continue supporting reconstruction in the future.

Eighty employees of local subsidiary Kobe Precision Technology Sdn. Bhd used donations from employees and the company to plant 1,000 mangrove trees along the Penang coast. The company will contribute to environmental preservation of coastal regions by increasing mangrove forests in the future.

In order to raise the environmental awareness of our employees and to ensure consistent measures, every year we hold the Kobe Steel Group Environmental Conference. Presentations are given on successful activities in order to propagate them throughout the group.
