ECOMEL™ for Purifying Soil and Groundwater
Adsorbs and degradation pollutants, rendering them harmless
ECOMEL™ is for remediating land and underground water. By using the chemical reaction that occurs on the surface of steel powder, it adsorbs variety of heavy metals and decomposes organic chlorine compounds (VOC). It is used for variety of purposes in civil engineering sectors such as remediating land during urban development, treating contaminated soil during tunneling, and suppressing underground water contamination.

Features
- Eco-Friendly material process
By turning naturally occurring iron into powder and using it as a purification material, it returns to the soil after demonstrating its purification capabilities.
- Large amounts can be supplied at stable quality
Stable quality is achieved, leveraging the expertise accumulated over many years.
- Ease of use enabling simple handling
After a reaction has occurred, it can be separated from the soil through magnetic separation or other means, allowing for use at a wide variety of purification or construction sites.

Purification Principle

Performance
Heavy Metal Adsorption
Kobe Steel performs adsorption performance tests using the following methods for five types of heavy metals, arsenic, lead, hexavalent chromium, cadmium, and selenium.
Even in a solution of heavy metals with concentrations exceeding standard environmental values, it has been shown that ECOMEL™ exhibits excellent heavy metal adsorption performance.

- Test method
Solution concentration: 1、10、100 mg/L
Substances: Arsenic, lead, hexavalent chromium, cadmium, selenium
Substances | Environmental standards (mg/L) | Equilibrium adsorption amount (mg/g) |
---|---|---|
Arsenic | 0.01 | 0.1 |
lead | 0.01 | 1.0 |
hexavalent chromium | 0.05 | 0.6 |
cadmium | 0.003 | 0.7 |
selenium | 0.01 | 0.1 |

- *White areas are below the lower limit of quantification. For hexavalent chromium, total chromium is analyzed.
VOC Degradation
ECOMEL™ is added to multiple types of organic chlorine compound solutions and shaken. The change in chlorine compound concentration over time is then measured to test the degradation performance.
The tests show that ECOMEL™ is able to quickly dechlorinate many organic chlorine compounds.
